At a glance
GreenBetween has no user accounts, advertising or analytics SDKs. Recent places and preferences are saved on your device. Searches and driving estimates use Apple’s mapping services, which receive information needed to fulfil those requests.
The app does not send your searches or location to a GreenBetween server. Emailing support or visiting this website involves the separate services explained below.
1. Who is responsible
GreenBetween is developed and operated by Andy O’Brien. In this policy, “I” refers to Andy O’Brien. This policy covers the GreenBetween iPhone app and its support and privacy pages at oclabs.co.uk/apps/greenbetween.
For questions or requests about personal information, email andyo.b@hotmail.com. I am responsible for personal information I receive through support and for the operation of these pages. Apple and other service providers also have responsibilities for information they process under their own policies.
2. Location and Apple Maps
You can choose a starting point by searching for a town, postcode or address, placing a pin on the map, or requesting your current location.
If you choose your current location, the app requests location access while you use it. It makes a location request when you ask and does not track your location in the background. You can decline permission and use an address or map pin instead.
GreenBetween uses Apple’s MapKit services for address suggestions, place searches, maps, course surroundings and driving estimates. Search text, relevant map areas, starting coordinates and destination coordinates are sent to Apple as needed to provide these features. This can include the coordinates of other players’ starting points that you enter. Use a town or another agreed meeting point if you do not want to use someone’s home address.
Apple’s handling of mapping information is explained in Apple Maps & Privacy and Location Services & Privacy. I do not receive a copy of these requests on a GreenBetween server.
3. Information saved on your device
The app saves information in its local storage so it can remember your choices:
- Your preferred search radius and most recently used search mode.
- Player labels you enter, such as a first name or nickname.
- Up to eight recently selected addresses or map pins, including their names, addresses and coordinates.
- Up to five recent search configurations, which can include player labels, chosen addresses or pins, search radius and maximum journey.
Locations obtained through Use my current location are excluded from the saved recent places and saved search configurations. An address or pin you select manually can still identify your home or another precise place.
Older recent entries are replaced as these limits are reached. Preferences and remaining entries stay until overwritten or the app’s data is removed. The app has no GreenBetween account, server backup or built-in cloud synchronisation. Depending on your iPhone settings, Apple’s device backups may include local app data.
4. If you contact support
If you email me, I receive your email address, the name shown by your email service, your message and any attachments you choose to send. I use this information to respond, investigate the issue and keep enough context to handle related follow-up questions.
Support email is handled through Microsoft’s Outlook/Hotmail service and your own email provider. Please send only information needed to explain the issue, and remove personal addresses or other private details from screenshots where possible. See Microsoft’s Privacy Statement for information about its services.
Where UK or European data protection law applies, the basis for handling support enquiries is my legitimate interest in helping users and maintaining the app. Support correspondence is kept for as long as it is reasonably needed to resolve the enquiry and related follow-up matters, or to meet a legal obligation or address a dispute. You can ask for it to be deleted using the contact details below.
5. This website
These pages are hosted on oclabs.co.uk using Cloudflare. Cloudflare may process technical request information, such as your IP address, browser information, requested page and time of access, to deliver and protect the website.
The GreenBetween pages do not use advertising trackers, analytics scripts, contact forms or a visitor database. They use your device’s built-in fonts, and artwork is served with the website. Clicking an email link opens your email app; it does not send a message automatically.
Cloudflare may use necessary cookies or similar technology for delivery and security. Its handling of data is governed by the Cloudflare Privacy Policy. Where I process technical information to operate or secure the site, I rely on the legitimate interest in providing a working, secure support service.
6. Sharing and other services
I do not sell your personal information or use it for targeted advertising. Information may be handled by the mapping, email and hosting providers described in this policy as needed to provide their services. I may also disclose information I hold where required by law or necessary to protect legal rights.
Opening directions in Apple Maps, visiting a course website or calling a course takes you to another service. Its privacy practices apply to information you provide there.
These providers operate internationally and may process information outside the UK or your country. Their linked policies explain their processing locations and applicable transfer safeguards. You can contact me for further information about providers used for support and this website.
7. Your choices and rights
- Location permission: change it in Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > GreenBetween. You can continue using manually selected starting points.
- Local app data: deleting the app through iPhone Settings removes its local data. Offloading keeps that data. There is currently no in-app clear-history control.
- Backups: manage iPhone backups in your Apple settings. Restoring a backup may restore previously saved app data.
- Support correspondence: email me to ask about information you have supplied or to request its deletion.
Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct or delete your personal information, restrict or object to processing, and receive a portable copy. Where processing relies on consent, you can withdraw it without affecting the lawfulness of earlier processing. These rights have conditions and exceptions.
I cannot retrieve local app data from your iPhone or access the mapping requests held by Apple. Requests about information held independently by a service provider may need to be directed to that provider.
To exercise your rights for information I hold, email andyo.b@hotmail.com. I will respond within the period required by applicable law, usually one month for UK data protection requests, and may need enough information to verify your identity. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office or your local data protection authority.
8. Children’s privacy
GreenBetween is intended for a general audience and is not specifically directed at children. It has no registration or age-profile feature. If you believe a child has sent personal information to support, contact me so I can review and, where appropriate, delete it.
9. Changes to this policy
This policy may change if the app, website or data practices change. The latest version will appear here with an updated date. Where required, significant changes will also be brought to your attention through the app or another appropriate notice.
